Rules

 

RULES- AS AMENDED 8 March 2006

   

1

The name of the Society shall  be "The Channel Islands Occupation Society (Jersey)"

The aims of the Society shall be

(a)     to study and investigate fully the German Occupation of the Channel Islands and to publish interesting documents relating thereto.

(b)     to further interest in the Occupation period by recording, safeguarding and preserving relics of the period.

(c)     that it is not a World War II re-enactment organisation.

(a)     The amount of the annual subscription shall be determined at the A.G.M.

(b)     If a member fails to pay the subscription by the first day of May, the Secretary shall warn the member once. Should the member not pay by the first day of June, membership shall cease

(c)     A joint husband/wife subscription shall apply, this to be equal to 75% of two full subscriptions. Holders of such subscriptions shall be entitled to receive only one copy of a Society publication each year.

(d)     A junior subscription, equal to 75% of one full subscription, shall apply to those who are below the age of 16 at the time of the A.G.M.

(e)     A family subscription shall apply covering one or two parents as provided by rule 3(c), plus an unlimited number of children under the age of 16 at the time of the A.G.M., the amount for each child to be determined at the A.G.M. Holders of such subscriptions shall receive one Society publication per year.

(f)       Subscriptions paid by new members joining on or after November 1st in any year shall also count for the following year.

Candidates for election as members can be elected at any meeting, their application forms having been duly signed by a proposer who must be a member.

The ruling body, (“the General Committee”) shall consist of

·      A president

·      Two Vice-Presidents

·      A Treasurer

·      A Secretary

·      A Social Secretary

·      An Editor of publications

·      An Archivist

·      A Press Officer

·      And three Committee members.

Sub-Committees may be appointed from time to time, either at the A.G.M. or by the General Committee The President, Secretary and Treasurer shall be entitled to attend all Sub-Committee meetings. Such attendance, however, shall not carry the right to vote unless any of them are elected members of a particular Sub-Committee.

Members meetings and General Committee meetings shall be held when convened by the Secretary, and Sub-Committee meetings when convened by the Secretary and/or the Chairman of a particular Sub-Committee.

The fullest co-operation shall be extended to the equivalent Society in Guernsey.

The Society is non-political and non-partisan.

Any member wishing to resign must notify the Secretary in writing.

The expulsion of a member can only be effected at the A.G.M. or an Extraordinary General Meeting.

Only those members present at the A.G.M. or an Extraordinary General Meeting can vote in an election of officials.

The A.G.M. shall be held in the March of each year; changes to Rules, nominations of officials, and any other motion to be included in the A.G.M. agenda shall be received in writing by the Secretary, properly proposed and seconded, by no later than the last day of February preceding the A.G.M.

No alterations to the Rules shall be made except by a majority of members present at the A.G.M.

Visitors are welcome to attend meetings, but no visitor may attend more than two meetings in any one year - (a year to count as running from one A.G.M. to the next), and a fee of 50p shall be paid for each meeting attended whether it be held outdoors or indoors.

Individual members shall not use the Society's name for conducting research or for obtaining archival material unless such activities are conducted by the Secretary on their behalf, or with the written permission of the President or Secretary, and all archival material so obtained shall remain the property of the Society unless otherwise agreed in writing by the President or Secretary.

While participating in Society activities no member or guest (other than serving members of H.M. forces or the armed forces of other nations) shall wear military uniforms or equipment, carry weapons (real or otherwise, or display political insignia).

Only current, paid-up, members of the Society shall be authorised to assist in the clearing or renovation of bunkers under the management of the Society, or to participate in any form of working party under the auspices of the Society.

In the event of the Channel Islands Occupation Society (Jersey) being wound up, all items on loan shall be returned to their owners and all remaining artefacts and remaining assets shall be passed to the Jersey Heritage Trust.

The Secretary shall from time to time give publicity to the members of those activities or tasks which shall be authorised by the Secretary as activities or tasks which may be pursued by members in pursuance of the Society's objectives as set out in paragraph 2 hereof, and such activities and tasks shall be deemed to be authorised activities.

 

Publicity of the authorised activities shall be by way of a notice signed by the Secretary listing those activities which are deemed to be authorised activities which notice shall be sent by ordinary post to each member of the CIOS to that Member's last given address and notice shall be deemed to have been served in all instances within seven (7) days of the posting of such notice. The posting to each member shall constitute good and proper notice to that member of the authorised activities.

Each and every Member shall provide the Secretary with an address for the purpose of the provisions of Rule 20 hereof.
