The Channel Islands were one of the most heavily fortified areas of Hitler’s ‘Atlantic Wall’ - a line of massive defence works which stretched from the Baltic to the Spanish frontier. The local fortifications include some of the best surviving examples of their kind in Western Europe and many are of a design that is unique to the Channel Islands.
The eight fortifications in the Society’s care have been authentically restored, and are open to the public on the basis that they are as much a part of the Island’s heritage as the Castles and Martello Towers. |
